In recent years, there has been noticed quite high increase in interest of biodegradable materials that can be used in packaging, agriculture, medicine, and other areas. There have been created special ISO standards with a purpose to classify the materials as biodegradable. There is showed very high interest all around the world for biodegradable polymer materials- so called biocomposites. Polymers are the basic of plastic materials that are more and more used in different areas. As a result many researchers are trying to develop and modify commonly used materials to introduce new, more user-friendly materials that are made from naturally available materials. There are several biological materials that can be combined into biodegradable polymer materials. The most popular ones are starch and fibres that are got from different plants. It is believable that the use of new biodegradable polymer materials will decrease the need and demand for synthetic polymer production that makes pollution. How it can be seen from different researched the use of biocomposites is growing year by year by ten to fifteen percent. This sphere of biocomposites has perspective future, because the non renewable resources are sharply decreasing and these composites are the only alternative. This paper shows a brief outline of work that is being done to develop the biodegradable polymers, the process of research, future outlook of the material and the new sectors where the biocomposites can be used.
