Students often come into contact with time estimation when studying the production technology of clothing. Until now the students of Design and Technology department of Riga Technical University did not use formalized time estimation methods in their term papers or qualification papers. They only adapted existing facts to their own needs. Thereby unconformable time expenditure was gained for specific products (sometimes a very high expenditure of time, at times a very low one) and this lead to wrong project data. The experience of the last two years shows that the quality of the knowledge about time estimation is rising if students are being informed about different working time estimation possibilities or methods and let them solve practical problems during the studying process. By solving such tasks students get the possibility to compare results gained with different methods, to evaluate the possibilities and to choose the most appropriate. The information about working time estimation is very scattered and is not available all together, wherewith specialists find it hard to orientate oneself in the offer and to chose the most appropriate. The experience gained by surveying Latvian clothing production companies shows that only few of the companies are really seriously engaged in solving the problems of working time estimation which become more and more significant with the raising salary level in the country and with the lack of qualified specialists in the main production branches. Thereby the graduates will be able to set their knowledge in work planning into practice in order to raise production efficiency and increasing their competitiveness in labor market.
