Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and its ceramics are good candidates for bones substitutes, due to their chemical and structural similarity to natural bone phase. HAp is bioactive; it has an ability to promote bone-like apatite formation in simulated body fluid (SBF). Antibacterial HAp can be produced by incorporation of silver ions into the HAp structure. Ion exchange method is the most widely used method for incorporation silver ions into HAp. In this study, we propose a modified wet precipitation method for obtaining the silver doped HAp at 90 oC. The bioactivity properties of the sintered silver doped HAp ceramic scaffolds were evaluated.
