The Thesis is a summary of scientific publications focused on crack reduction in ceramic (clay bricks) and cement-based facade materials (glass fibre reinforced concrete – GRC). As part of the Doctoral Thesis, an analysis of clays from the “Liepa” quarry was performed and their effect on the formation of cracks in ceramic materials was evaluated, solutions were sought for reducing cracks in various technological stages. GRC has been studied by changing raw materials with an aim to improve bending properties, and effectiveness of crystalizing admixtures for crack self-healing has been evaluated.
