The studies presents the research of gypsum castings (consoles), dated with 1570 which are exposed to out door conditions (for more than 200 years) at the ruins of Cesis castle (Latvia). Investigation included the studies of chemical and mineralogical composition as well as measurements of physical and mechanical properties. According to the obtained results and examination of samples by optical microscopy, it could be assumed that historically for the preparation of mixture the crushed gypsum grains were used as the filler, mixed in an anhydrite CaSO4 binder, obtained in temperature range of 800-1000o C.
