Energy is one of the most important provider’s of Latvian national and regional competitiveness and independence. Renewable energy sources mix available in Latvia currently is not being used sufficiently for power generation. This does not mean the immediate withdraw from energy imports, but it helps to balance energy production and structure of imports. Energy should be used efficiently therefore Latvian regions need to develop strategic plans for increasing energy efficiency which are an important tool to strengthen competitiveness. Rising of energy efficiency in producing sector is a major priority. Improvement of energy efficiency of public and residential buildings in regions should also be encouraged.
