Silver halide colloidal nanoparticles provide promising properties, but the synthesis and stability in solution needs to be confirmed. Nanoparticles were synthesized using a condensation reaction. Scanning electron microscopy images showed nanoparticle transient behavior as a function of time, in agreement with changes in the UV – Visible spectra; the position and intensity of silver halide peaks in the absorption spectra change with particle size. UV-Visible spectroscopy can thus follow the particle growth of negatively charged AgI colloids and also detect destabilization of the AgI colloid particle solution.
