The co-precipitation synthesis of MFe2O4 (M=Ni, Zn, Co, Cu, Mg) powder photocatalysts are presented. Their structures and properties are determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS), nitrogen adsorption-desorption and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Results reveal formation of single phase spinel structure ferrimagnetic nanoparticles with particle size <10nm. The photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) under visible light indicated that the pH of the reaction medium should be controlled to initiate reaction. NiFe2O4 shown highest dye adsorption and aqueous MO solution (10 mg/l) was almost completely degraded after 3h irradiation.
