Due to the rapid development of IT and regular appearance of new products, substituting morally outdated items, there is a gradual increase in the amount of e-waste due to their shortened life-cycle. At the moment estimates show that annual generation of e-waste is about 40 million tonnes, making approximately 5 % of all solid waste generated in the world [1]. By considering limited space on the planet Earth and many possible adverse effects that landfilled waste can leave on the ambience because of unpredictable and undesirable interactions with surrounding flows (mainly due to thermal, gaseous and aqueous pollution), sustainable utilization of end-of-use electronic products maintains its topicality, becoming the subject of the research, partly presented in the current report. Corresponding to the global trends plastics are gradually gaining increased use as components of various IT items. At the moment the amount of plastics, mainly acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) terpolymer, comprises approximately 30 wt.% of the waste stream of electronic products [2]. Consequently in the current research personal computer monitor derived recycled ABS (r-ABS), alone and in a blend with polycarbonate (PC), is used as a matrix of polymer nanocmposites. Organically modified montmorillonite clay (OMMT) in a weight content range between 0-2 wt.% is used as nanostructured modifier. r-ABS and PC/r-ABS based composites with OMMT have been obtained via melt compounding route by using twin screw extruder. Certain structural, rheological, thermal and mechanical properties of the developed composites have been investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry, capillary viscometry, thermogravimetric analysis and stress-strain analysis.
