ZnO nanowires (NWs) have attracted a lot of attention due to favorable physical properties including semiconductivity, piezoelectric behavior and biocompatibility making them ideal components for optoelectronics, photonics, actuators, solar cells etc. ZnO NWs properties can be modified according to particular needs by doping with transition metals. Co is one of the most suitable dopants because small amounts of Co is able to impart additional functionalities such as visible light photocatalysis and magnetism without significantly disturbing the growth and crystal structure of ZnO NWs. However, the influence of the Co-doping on the mechanical properties of ZnO NWs has not yet been investigated.
