Calcium phosphate cement functionality can be further improved by introducting macroporosity for cell ingrowth through the implant and modification of biological properties using various bioactive substances (drugs). In this work the properties of polylactic acid and calcium phosphate composite cements are investigated. The structure of composites is investigated using scanning electron microscopy and light microscopy. The characteristics of drug substance (lidocaine and vancomycine) release from composites are investigated depending on the cement composition and mode of incorporation of drug into composite.
