In this work, anaerobic digestion of dairy waste (whey) was researched, optimal process parameters and methods were selected for the development of biogas production technology using alkali-releasing composite materials. Biogas production process and its dependence on microbiological and technological parameters were described in literature review. Characterization of milk processing industry, acid whey, production amounts, possible applications for whey in biogas production, and problems related to anaerobic digestion were described. Literature review also includes characterization and selection principles of available anaerobic digestion technologies for treatment of whey. Development of optimal continuous anaerobic process for treatment of acid whey, equipped with an automatic pH regulation system, was described in the experimental section. Various microbiological inocula were analyzed. Using culture Methanosarcina barkeri, effect of bioaugmentation was researched. It was found that by selecting optimal microbiological inoculum it is possible to obtain higher efficiency of the anaerobic treatment process. Using various alkaline material modifications and concentrations in the anaerobic digestion process, influence on methane yield and biochemical methane potential was found. A continuous digestion experiment was performed, using an adapted system with an alkali-releasing material for pH regulation. Experimental results prove it is possible to reach high biogas production yields, using an innovative system with alkali-releasing materials for pH regulation, and to start a new direction in development of anaerobic digestion processes. This work is written in Latvian. It contains 120 pages, 60 images and 26 tables. 110 literature sources were used.
