β-Tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) bioceramics incorporating small amounts of Mg show attractive biological performances in terms of enhanced bone apposition, bone in-growth and cell-mediated degradation. According to literature, the incorporation of Mg ions stabilizes the β-tricalcium phosphate, increasing its transition temperature to α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP). A systematic investigation on β-TCP and Mg-substituted β-TCP and the effect of Mg content on thermal stability of β-TCP ceramics is presented.
