Every year the number of surgical procedures where calcium phosphate implant materials are used is increasing. It is possible to include different ions into hydroxyapatite structure to improve its properties. By including silver ions into hydroxyapatite structure, antibacterial activity of the material can be ensured. Wide researches into development of controlled drug delivery systems based on hydroxyapatite were started only within the last decade, therefore it is still an ongoing process to look for the optimal drug delivery conditions to control the drug release. The aim of current research was to prepare silver doped hydroxyapatite porous scaffolds coated with chitosan and alginate for controlled lidocaine delivery and to evaluate the effect of system preparation method on drug release profile.
