The developing field of biomaterials is focused on creation of novel implantmaterials which can provoke specific cellular responses and direct tissue regeneration. In last decade, fabrication and investigation of inorganic-organic composites based on calcium phosphates (CaP) and biocompatible polymers has attracted research interest in the field of bone tissue engineering. These composites have potential application in developing of controlled release drug delivery systems. Research goal is to develop advantageous preparation technologies of biodegradable composites based on the CaP and biocompatible polymers, as well to adjust composition and structure of the composites for specific medical applications. Preparation and characterization of various CaP/polymer composites, e.g., CaP/polyvinyl alcohol, CaP/ε-polylysine, CaP/polylactic acid, CaP/polycaprolactone etc. for enhanced biodegradability, drug-loading capacity, and toughness/flexibility etc. will be discussed.
