In 2014-2018, scientists of Riga Technical University (RTU) have updated the hydrogeological model (HM) of Latvia that resulted in the HM current version LAMO4. LAMO4 covers the area of 475km × 300km=142.5 thous.km2. HM simulates the steady state average groundwater regimes of Latvia. The commercial program “Groundwater Vistas 6” (GV) is used for running LAMO4. HM contains 14 aquifers and 13 aquitards, the plane approximation step is 250 meters. The HM 3D grid contains 61.56×106 nodes. In 2014, the first results were reported on creating geological profiles for presenting groundwater heads and infiltration flows, computed by the LAMO1 and LAMO2 versions. Since 2014, the new methods of creating the profiles have been developed, especially for the case when a profile moves along the middle line of a river. Then the profile direction may have the most twisted shape. The bed surface of a river must replicate the shape of its water level line. Firstly, the profile for stratigraphy have to be created where the aquifers and aquitards must be arranged correctly, because hydrogeological variables behave differently within these strata. The stratigraphy is obtained by interpolation in the apace of the z maps (surfaces of strata). The φ maps and q maps of computed groundwater heads and flows provide initial data for obtaining isoline sets for heads and infiltration flows, accordingly. The φ and q isolines must be vertical within the aquifers and aquitards, respectively. The profiles for showing the groundwater recharge, transit, discharge areas and for exposing of pathlines created by the MODPATH program were also created. To minimize the risk of obtaining false results due to human factors, the program for creating profiles operates with minimal involvement of a modeler.
